In Whee!’s case, twirling her staff makes things tough for poor little Lynk, which is a running gag in this series.

One of the more interesting details in this series is that the cord on Whee!’s remote/nunchuck combo is actually a staff. Could you imagine trying to twirl this controller like a baton in real life?
