Mission One’s Commentary:
October 31, 2001 marked the end of Dee Cast’s production run. It’s a shame, as we all know that she can still do her thing.
VF5 might be a bit of a stretch, though…
RKasa adds:
I don’t know how Mission One got the month right in the title, and wrong in the description. The Dreamcast was indeed discontinued on March 31, 2001.
Dee Cast was purely a last-gen idol at the time this comic was written, but she isn’t wrong in that she can still do this. MobyGames lists singles for her released that are as recent as 2018!
Three classic Dee Cast singles are referenced in the second panel: either ChuChu Rocket! or (more likely) Space Channel 5 (the dancing), Seaman (the fish), and Skies of Arcadia (the one she’s holding). The first two singles are the same in Japanese, but instead of Skies of Arcadia/Eternal Arcadia, Dee Cast was originally holding Rent A Hero No. 1.
Finally, note the Mega Drive logo on the back of Saygah’s jacket. It can also just barely be seen in the earlier comic “Loss For Words”.
Original comic: P.S.すりーさん No.19
